Castello di Tagliolo
For over a thousand years, Tagliolo Castle and its medieval village has dominated the wild hills of Ovada, a place of woods, vines and unspoilt valleys that slope gently downwards to form the Alto Monferrato area. The noble Pinelli Gentile family, who has owned the castle from 1498 onwards, continue a centuries-old tradition of tending the vineyards and producing exquisite wines, including Castagnola, an extremely long-lived Dolcetto aged in oak casks, and Riserva del Marchese, a Metodo Classico of 100% Pinot Nero.
But there’s more than wine. The castle’s silkworm nursery is nowadays used for weddings, fashion shows, lunches, business events and gala dinners. Accommodation is in the elegant guesthouses, restored in keeping with the area’s traditional architecture, and there’s a large private garden and fabulous views of the vineyards.
The authentic atmosphere and emotional impact means that guests can savour this place’s extraordinary history along with its wine.
