Gianni Doglia
In the hills around Asti the breeze of the sea returns every summer to breathe on the land it bathed millions of years ago: the Marin comes up from Liguria to replace the Alpine Foehn, an alternation that gives the area’s wines very special aromas and flavours.
This is well known among local families like the Doglias, who have been making wine in Castagnole Lanze for three generations. Gianni, an oenologist and extremely knowledgeable about this area, is responsible for the cultivation of 14 hectares of family-run vineyards, almost all of which can be reached from the winery on foot.
The philosophy here is geared to sustainable viticulture: respect for plants and biodiversity, bird nesting boxes in the vineyards, maintenance of the microbial flora of the soil, fertilisation without chemicals, mowing instead of herbicides, low yields per hectare, manual processes and small natural woodlands between the vineyards. The winery organises activities for adults and children, with visits and tastings, picnics and excursions on foot or by bicycle.
