Ceste

The Ceste family has been making wine in Govone for generations. The winery is on the access road to the village from the main Asti-Alba road.

From a small farm at the start of the 20th-century, the estate has grown to cover 20 hectares of hilly land. In the late 60s Franco Ceste joined his father Guido, a well-known wine producer; he bought nine parcels of land and planted the vineyards which today remain the mainstay of their production. He was skilled at broadening horizons and taking his wines outside national borders. The classic cru is Sposabella, a vineyard planted with Barbera vines, which find their maximum expression in this area of the Roero.

The Ceste family follow a solidly traditional winemaking philosophy: harvesting the grapes when fully ripe, soft pressing and slow ageing in oak casks. On the top of the nearby hill sits Govone in all its austere beauty: the castle, built in 989 and often restored, is now one of the Savoy residences listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
