Monchiero Carbone
There are not many wineries located in urban areas, but Monchiero Carbone is one. Restoration of the original 18th-century farmhouse began in the late 1980s and today it can be visited in all its splendour. The building, just outside the centre of Canale, was chosen because it has an extensive basement in terracotta brickwork, ideal for the lengthy ageing of wines at a constant temperature.
The story of the winery is that of a happy marriage between local families, each of which brought a dowry of land and character: the Monchieros - serious and unbending - owned the Mombirone vineyards, which nowadays produce full-bodied, complex wines, while the Carbone family, known for their cordiality and friendliness, owned the Tanon vineyard in Vezza d’Alba, which gives a beautifully fragrant Arneis.
Welcoming visitors is the new generation, Francesco Monchiero and his wife Lucrezia: true lovers of the land and its native wines, which are the flagships of their production: Arneis and Roero.
