Serradenari

Serradenari

Serradenari is Barolo's "mountain". On one side it faces the arc of the Alps, on the other the hills of the Langhe, across a sea of vines. The farmhouse owes its name to the plague of 1450, which brought fleeing peasants here, few of whom survived.

The estate extends upwards from Pian delle Molle, 450 metres asl to the highest vineyard at 536 metres asl. It is 14 hectares of alternating vineyards and truffle woods with the winery at the centre. Running Serradenari is a woman, Giulia Negri, known as “Barologirl” for her maverick, personal winemaking style. Her challenge is that of the latest generation of a dynasty that has made wine on this small hill for 150 years. There’s a moderate winery, which she calls “my garage” producing fewer than 40,000 bottles a year which are sold all over the world.

The uniqueness of a visit here is completed with the opportunity to hunt for truffles in their natural habitat: visitors can book a dog and a truffle hunter, and at the end of the excursion, enjoy the Alba white truffle on classic Piedmont dishes.
