Bersano
Bersano was founded in Nizza Monferrato in 1907, and today it is a wine- growing estate with more than 230 hectares of vines spread between Monferrato and the Langhe. Alongside its excellent wines, the complex is home to a major wine museum, renowned as one of Piedmont’s most important ethnographic collections. The exhibition includes tools, farm carts, wine presses (some from the 17th-and 18th-centuries) and casks: items that bear witness to farming and winemaking culture before the invention of the combustion engine. The museum is completed by an iconographic account of the past 400 years of viticulture, with prints, edicts regulating wine and its trade, ancient parchment documents and promotional posters, printed and hand-drawn wine labels. With one of the largest specialist museums in Italy, the Bersano winery was included in the list of assets for the region’s candidature for UNESCO recognition.
