Aurelio Settimo
As you descend from La Morra towards Alba, you come to the hamlet of Annunziata on the right-hand side. Just before the square with the former Benedictine abbey of San Martino di Marcenasco, a white house announces the Aurelio Settimo estate. The farm was built in the late 19th-century and has been home to the winery since 1943, with extensions dating from the 60s.
Vineyards occupy 6 hectares, half of which are in the Rocche dell’Annunziata area, a renowned Barolo Menzione. The vines enjoy sunshine from early morning, and are sheltered by the basin that lies between the hills of San Martino and Cerequio-Brunate.
A unique feature of the winery is the vinification and conditioning sections, which are partly carved out of the hillside - a device that ensures constant temperatures in both winter and summer. In the ageing room, large casks of French oak provide a picturesque setting for wine tastings (subject to payment).
