Beppe Bocchino

Beppe Bocchino

The Bocchino family has been producing wines since the second half of the 19th-century, when the founder, Felice, was already exporting to the Americas. The atmosphere here is still the same: connections with origins and patience with lengthy processes. As the saying goes, “wine doesn’t agree with haste.”

Today the business is run by Beppe and his wife Maria; they are joined by the new generation, Annalisa and Daniele, who greet visitors and guide them in tasting sessions. But the small winery remains the same, surrounded by the wonderful hilly landscape of Canelli, where the vineyards are tended manually and flowers still grow because herbicides have been banned.

The family forebears live on in the memory of past vintages, but also on the bottles, such as Blincin, the ancestor who was so jolly he was chosen as the town’s Carnival mascot: his name is now on the label of a sumptuous Barbera d’Asti Superiore, produced from seventy-year-old vines.
