Fratelli Casetta

Fratelli Casetta

The Fratelli Casetta winery is in Vezza d’Alba, in the heart of the Roero. The vineyards are at altitudes of between 200 and 400 metres.

The family has lived here since 1725; the current winery was founded in 1960. It is a modern winery, yet deeply tied to traditional methods. Successive generations have passed down the arts of viticulture and winemaking: low-pressure presses to gently squeeze the grapes; stainless steel vats for fermentation and oak casks for ageing the reds. In the vineyard the work is done the old-fashioned way: hoeing, pruning and harvest are strictly manual.

On the winery’s sundial the inscription uva ab agris optima vina hic fert (“in this place the vineyards give great wines”) recalls the central importance of the vineyard and its work, as well as this area’s ancient vocation for excellent wines.
